Shanklin Football Club celebrated starting a £50,000 changing-room upgrade project, part funded by a Football Foundation Grant, with the Island’s High Sheriff, Graham Biss, at the annual Cup Final Day over-30s v under-30s match.
The Club also launched new U-8, U-9 and U-10 sides for the 2024-25 season, alongside the U-14 side.
Mr Biss said: “As a keen sports fan, it was good to see so many young people enjoying the afternoon and the future looks promising for Shanklin, and Island football.”
Plans for the upgrade include an accessible toilet, improved referees’ room, new showers and additional seating for youth, women’s and men’s sides. The opening of the new facilities is planned to coincide with an Island-wide 6-a-side tournament on Saturday, July 20.
Club captain, Peter Wilson, who received the cheque on behalf of the club, added: “We greatly appreciated the High Sheriff supporting this much-needed project, and launching our youth set-up.”
