The beneficiaries of this year’s annual community quiz, organised by Trinity Theatre, which raised £550, were the donkeys at Carisbrooke Castle.
The quiz is run by Cowes Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society (CAODS), with quiz masters Pete and Tracy Asher. The event has raised many thousands of pounds for charity over the years.
Donkeys have been at Carisbrooke Castle for hundreds of years and are most well-known for walking in the big wheel that raises water from the castle’s well. Thankfully with modern water supply, they only do that for very short spells now. The English Heritage Trust is a charity and targeted fund-raising such as this is crucial for the upkeep and welfare of the resident donkeys.
Hannah Brewer, stable manager, said: “This donation will be a big help towards the ongoing costs of food, veterinary bills and other costs associated with the donkeys. The donkeys have asked me to pass on a big thank you to everyone who took part.”
