Hale the Rail: IW Steam Railway appoints a new commercial manager

Isle of Wight Steam Railway has appointed Richard Hale as its new commercial manager.

Richard will work with the company’s commercial team to maximise
opportunities and build upon the railway’s sustained growth and recent successes.
Recruitment for the position began back in April and 16 applicants were considered. But it
was Richard’s enthusiasm and creativity that really impressed the interview panel.

Richard brings with him a wealth of experience and a solid understanding of how a
preserved railway works, having formerly worked in a similar role at Kirklees Light Railway
near Huddersfield and with a previous background in retail management.

Magic of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

With family already living here on the Island, Richard was keen to relocate with his partner Rachel and their two young children.

In a statement Richard said “I’m very proud and excited to have been appointed into this
role, it has been a long held vision to relocate to the Isle of Wight and I’m thrilled to have
successfully demonstrated my abilities to the panel.

“I very much look forward to making a positive contribution to the future of the Railway.”

General Manager Peter Vail said: “The railway’s progress over recent years has
been particularly pleasing. To sustain this level of growth, it has been essential to increase
our resource. In Richard we have recruited a manager with an ability to drive us to another, higher level. These are very exciting times.”
