Concerns over Freshwater woman with kitchen knife may have been hoax

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary were called to deal with a woman following concern for her welfare in Freshwater on Tuesday evening (January 15).

Police officers and a Dog Unit, together with other police vehicles, rushed to School Green Road, Freshwater, in connection with the incident.

The woman concerned was said to have been armed with a knife or sharp-pointed object and was reported to have chased a male down the street, following a domestic incident earlier in the evening.

Concerns were raised for the welfare of the woman in question and that of a child within the property. The incident was quickly brought under control by officers and was of no wider threat to the general public.

It is now understood that the call that promoted a large police response may have been a hoax. Officers are currently investigating.
