Festive Lunch for Village Elders

The third annual Christmas lunch for the elders of Chillerton and Gatcombe was held at the Village Hall this week.

Sponsored by Chillerton and Gatcombe Parish Council and supported by the Community
Association, 24 three course lunches were served in the Hall and 7 lunches distributed to
house bound residents.

The whole community pulled together once again with different residents cooking various elements of the meal in their homes and delivering them to the Village Hall ready for other residents to plate up, serve and clear.

It was a very jolly event with residents enjoying a welcoming sherry and many bringing their own wine to share amongst the tables.

Chairman of the Parish Council and Community Association member Gillian Belben said: “This started as a one-off event three years ago. It was so well received that we have
continued to hold it thanks to the financial support of the Parish Council. We received a
number of discounted items from suppliers, including Radcliffe’s in Blackwater. A team of 6
residents cooked behind the scenes and 9 more helped on the day. I would like to thank
everyone for making this event such a success, the feedback from the recipients has been
excellent.”
