September 1 saw Wight Tri members, Nick and Laura Curwood, return to Dorney Lake in Berkshire for another para versus able-bodied triathlon race in the Dorney Lake Super Sprint Triathlon.
Nick exited the 400m swim in 6m 18s, in second place, 51s behind a very swift youth category triathlete. Nick showed his strength and experience to post faster times on the bike, but could not quite catch him on the run, in the end falling short by 33s. A 10k bike PB of 15m 31s, and a final 2.5k run of 10m 12s, saw Nick finish second overall, and first in his 55-59 age group with an overall time of 35m 4s.
Laura exited the swim seconds after Nick, achieving a 400m PB of 6m 33s and, another PB on the 10k bike of 21m 21s. There was no PB on the 2.5k run, but at 9m 18s, she was only eight seconds away from a hat-trick. Laura came 11th out of the 67 able-bodied competitors, was fourth female overall, and second in her 25-29 age group.
