Decadeance fund-raiser for Mountbatten

The Chairman of the IW Council, Ian Dore, rolled back the years as he took to the turntables for a DJ stint at the last DECADeANCE party at Cowes Yacht Haven on Saturday.

Former DJ and radio broadcaster Ian, wore his council chain as he played dance music from the 90’s to mid-2000’s, to help raise thousands of pounds for Mountbatten.

He said: “I turned up around 8.30pm to soak up the atmosphere and get a vibe of the audience. Even around an hour later I hadn’t really decided how it was going to come off. But I played a full hour and there was non-stop action.

“There was a cracking atmosphere and it was a fantastic evening.”

Tony Martin, who founded the event, which has raised more than £100,000 for Mountbatten since 2009, added: “It was a great way to bow out. We had more than 300 people there, so I wanted to end on a high.

“Over the years we have had different themes asking people to wear fancy dress, including the Rio Carnival, James Bond and space.

“So, as this was the last one, we asked people to wear a mixture of all the previous different themes and there were some great costumes on show.

“I’ve decided to end it because I think there are too many big events like this competing against each other and I am conscious people don’t have the resources nowadays.

“But having said that, this may have been the final event, but there’s always the chance of an encore, although maybe not for the time being.”

He added: “Ian was a great sport, we have talked about him doing a stint before, but we never managed to get our diaries to match up, so he picked the ideal time to turn out for us.

“I’d also like to thank all the local businesses for their sponsorship and raffle prizes, there are too many to mention, but without them, we couldn’t raise this sort of money for such a great cause.”

Tony said he hopes to raise in the region of £5,000 from this year’s event.
