COUNCILLOR PROFILE: Cllr Andrew Garratt, Parkhurst & Hunnyhill – Liberal Democrat group leader – 01983 524623 – andrew.garratt@iow.gov.uk

Cllr Andrew Garrett

It is a great privilege to have been re-elected as Isle of Wight councillor for Parkhurst & Hunnyhill. Thank-you to everyone who voted. I will continue to do my best for our area.

The ward stretches from Mark’s Corner in the northwest, to the Medina in the east, and down to Hunnyhill in the south. This brings tremendous diversity: sites of special scientific interest, ancient woodlands, rivers, streams and open grassland, the prison, hospital, an industrial estate, farms, manufacturing industry, schools and college, and the waste recycling plant. And, of course, the homes of over 2,700 electors and their families – including my own.

I stood for re-election to continue work on many issues. These include: ensuring the council prioritises poverty reduction, cost of living support, and truly affordable housing for Islanders to rent and buy, getting a complete rethink on how major road works are co-ordinated, and communicated and completion of the upgrades to council-owned prison estate roads. Also I will be working on implementation of the speed review recommendation for Horsebridge Hill, improving traffic flow, and pedestrian safety at St Mary’s junction, and safety for pedestrians crossing Hunnycross Way, near the Lidl mini-roundabout.

I am, of course, realistic. Some issues will require money – and that is very limited for Isle of Wight Council. Others will take time.

If there is anything that I can help with – however ‘big’ or ‘small’ – please get in touch. Residents can also follow my work as their councillor at andrewgarratt.mycouncillor.org.uk/.
