Concern over cliff movement in Lake

A Lake footpath had to be closed on Saturday (December 15) after a day of torrential downpours led to a cliff fall.

After it had been reported that debris had fallen onto a footpath, Island Roads were called to Cliff Path, which leads from Cliff Road to the Sandown-Shanklin seafront.

Despite the fact that only a small quantity of earth had landed on the footpath, concerns have been raised about the stability of the cliff.

The relevant authorities are keeping a close watch on the area, and a decision will be made about re-opening the path after assessing the information available.

Pedestrians have been advised to avoid the area concerned and respect the closure notices.
