Bembridge Village Hall will once again host Carols and Mince Pies on Sunday, December 14, an event that has become, for many, the real start of the festive season. For the past four years the hall has been filled to capacity as GASP (Gilbert and Sullivan Productions) brings its singers together for an afternoon of Christmas music.
Those familiar with GASP’s Gilbert and Sullivan shows, including this year’s production of The Sorcerer, will be familiar the group’s strong vocal performances. The Christmas programme offers audiences the chance to hear the company’s singers turn their talents to much-loved seasonal music, from traditional carols to familiar festive classics. One piece, “Ring Forth Ye Bells,” featured in their September show.
The event begins at 2.30pm, with visitors invited to join the choir in singing carols such as We Three Kings, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and In the Bleak Midwinter. There will also be solo and choral performances, with favourites including O Holy Night and I’ll Be Home for Christmas.
To help set the mood, the bar will serve hot mulled wine and mince pies, alongside tea and coffee. Decorations created by GASP members will remain in place for other seasonal events at the hall.
Organisers say the afternoon offers a chance to step away from the usual December rush and enjoy music, warmth and community spirit. A limited number of tickets remain and can be booked at iw.observer/mince-pies or by calling 7460925.
