Three fire engines were despatched to a fire at a fish and chip shop in Oakfield, Ryde, this afternoon (Friday).

The small fire was reported just before 3pm and extinguished before crews arrived.

The IW Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the appliances had been rushed to the incident at Dory’s Den, in the High Street, but stressed, on arrival, it was found to be “a small chip pan blaze” which had been extinguished on arrival.

No casualties were reported. “I think the fish and chips are safe,” said one onlooker.
