Ben’s beautiful beach creations

A homeless man, who is walking around the UK with his dog, Milo, to raise money for charity, is taking a break on the Island and is using the time to build beautiful sculptures on the beach which are amazing visitors.

Ben Johnson’s latest creations are a mermaid and an impressive lion on Bembridge beach, created from clay and various items he found there.

The devoted pair set off on their great adventure at the end of January, when he “ran out of sofas” after sofa surfing for more than a year. He started off walking around the coast of Wales to raise funds for Royal British Legion Industries, which provides services to veterans, Trussell Trust foodbanks and Dementia UK.

Ben has faced an emotional time recently, as Milo was diagnosed with testicular cancer, but after successful treatment from a local vet, it is believed he is clear of the disease and is now recovering well.

Managing to see the beauty in life and his surroundings, despite the challenges he faces, Ben regularly posts inspirational messages on Facebook, along with pictures of his life with Milo. He has recently set up a GoFundMe to help buy supplies, including new boots for

Milo, and better food for both of them. You can donate via iw.observer/benandmilo.
