Armed traffic Police 60K BMW rammed by uninsured driver in Newport

Two armed police officers on the Isle of Wight have escaped injured following the pursuit of a car in Newport.

Officers in the black unmarked BMW X5 attempted to try to stop a man who was driving a blue, uninsured Audi A3 on Pan Estate.

Sparks were seen coming from the front driver’s wheel as the driver recklessly drove through the narrow streets with officers in pursuit just after 7.10 pm.

Officers finally brought the chase to a close on Ash Road. The officers escaped injury after their vehicle was rammed by the Audi. One man was detained and arrested for failing to stop for Police, reckless driving and having no insurance. The £58,000 Police spec BMW X5 received extensive damage to the driver and rear passenger door, front bumper, bonnet, driveshaft and transfer box.

Both vehicles were rendered immobile and have been recovered by Stag Lane motors.

One man remains in Police custody at Newport Police station.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “Officers in an unmarked Police vehicle made a tactical contact to stop the vehicle.
Both vehicles, the Audi A3 and a BMW X5, were damaged.
A man from Cowes was arrested at the scene and remians in police custody.”
