Young artists create Christmas card magic

Young artists across the Island are being invited to get creative as the Isle of Wight Council’s Chairman launches his annual Christmas card competition.

Cllr Ian Dore is asking primary school-aged children from schools and home-educating families to create a festive winter design for his official Christmas card.

The winning artwork will feature on the Chairman’s Christmas e-card, sent to hundreds of organisations, businesses, and community groups during the festive season.

Children can create anything capturing the spirit of Christmas, from snowy Island landscapes and festive landmarks to Christmas characters, winter wildlife, or imaginative seasonal scenes.

Cllr Dore said: “Christmas is a wonderful time of year and I am delighted to invite children to take part in this year’s competition.

“Every year I am amazed by the creativity, imagination, and artistic talent shown in the entries. Whether it’s a festive view of a favourite Island landmark, a traditional Christmas scene, or something completely unique, I can’t wait to see the designs.

“I would encourage as many children as possible to get involved and have some festive fun. Who knows, your artwork could be my official Christmas card for 2026!”

Last year’s competition attracted a range of colourful and imaginative entries, with an overall winner and two highly commended entries. Cllr Dore visited schools to present certificates to some successful entrants.

This year’s winner will receive a certificate from the Chairman, with certificates also expected for highly commended entries.

Entries can be emailed to civic.affairs@iow.gov.uk, or posted or delivered to County Hall, Newport. The deadline is November 27, with judging taking place later that weekend.
