This year’s Yarmouth Mayor’s Award has been won by the town’s former mayor.
Debbie McCleary, who took over earlier in the year, made the announcement at the annual Senior Citizens’ lunch, organised by the Yarmouth Carnival Committee and held at the Royal Solent Yacht Club.
Former mayor, Jamie Allen, will receive the award with Debbie saying: “This is to recognise all his hard work, not just on the council, but generally around town. He is now chairman of the Yarmouth Carnival Committee and does a lot of work in the community, supporting our events and putting up the town’s Christmas tree and decorations.
“He is a valued member of our community and everything he does is voluntary.”
Jamie added: “I really appreciate the award and the recognition for my work on the council. Now, I’m looking forward to continuing my work with the carnival committee.”
Around 45 local senior citizens were treated to a full Christmas dinner, at the party which included carols, sung by members of the carnival committee, assisted by Teresa Fox on the piano and including a solo by Jane Roberts.
