Cllr Sarah Redrup, from Grace’s Bakery, and Rob Madigan, from the Star Coffee & Ale House, held a festive pub quiz on Wednesday to raise money for a charity forced to vacate their building after flooding in Ryde.
With generous raffle prizes from local businesses, they managed to raise £350 on the evening. The quiz teams were treated to mulled wine, free mince pies and a special “Where’s Blobby” picture round.
In the early hours of October 25, severe flooding devastated the ground floor of Tidal Family Support in Rink Road. Dirty water filled the offices, playrooms, sensory rooms and more and soaked toys, books, paperwork, furniture and carpets.
The small charity works with families directly impacted by separation or divorce, helping parents and children move on from the trauma of relationship breakdown. They are also the only enhanced national-accredited child contact centre on the Island.
Sarah said: “Many people were affected by the flooding in October and I wanted to do something to help. Rob was immediately on board so we decided to put on a festive pub quiz. The place was packed and the £350 we raised brought total raised so far to £1,400. I want to send a special shout out to the Ryde businesses that generously gave a prize to the raffle and everyone who came along on the night. It’s amazing what our community can achieve when we work together.”
