Technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace, so what will be the trends for the coming year?
1) Artificial Intelligence (AI) became a buzzword in 2023 and its popularity is set to continue. Moving from the confine of chatbots to choreographing musical scores, writing bestselling novels, driving autonomous vehicles and improving healthcare through better diagnosis and personalised treatments.
2) Smart devices are projected to reach more than 207 billion by the end of 2024. All connected to a worldwide network and making up the Internet of Things (IoT). Everything from toys, toothbrushes, lawnmowers, watches and smart fridges to heavy industrial equipment and medical devices. Making our homes, businesses and lives more connected than ever before.
3) Extended Reality is made up of all the technologies that simulate reality, such as Virtual Reality, Augmented and Mixed Reality. Allowing you to walk on the moon, view a new home from the other side of the world, see how a piece of furniture will look in your home or a new watch on your wrist. In business, it can bring teams and customers together like never before and provide simulations to find solutions to problems in dangerous areas without putting anyone at risk.
4) Security and privacy concerns over recent years are driving an increased focus on more robust security measures, including more secure communication protocols, encryption and AI-driven threat detection systems. With even more built into industry and regulatory standards, making security more engrained in our lives.
5) Autonomous vehicles, incorporating many of the trends in this list may be set to further transform transport in 2024. Advanced driver systems such as crash prevention, blind-spot detection and lane control have been with us for several years and are well-proven. Advances in sensor technology, AI and connectivity, enable vehicles to navigate complex environments and difficult conditions in real-time and support the development of autonomous vehicles, potentially eliminating the need for human drivers and further improving safety and mobility whilst reducing congestion on roads.
