Women rescued from sea at Shanklin after emergency

Emergency services were called to Shanklin seafront this evening (Weds) after two women were reported to be in difficulties in the sea.

Police and ambulance services along with the HM Coastguard teams from Bembridge and Ventnor, the coastguard helicopter and Sandown ad Shanklin Lifeboat were alerted when two women were spotted in the sea off Shanklin Esplanade.

It is believed the women were swimming in the sea when the alert was raised. Both were rescued and taken away by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital.
