East Cowes shipbuilder, Wight Shipyard Company, has unveiled their newbuild hybrid vessel at Seawork 2019, Europe’s largest commercial marine and workboat exhibition.
Wight Shipyard Company’s Chief Executive Officer,. Peter Morton, and Chief Operating Officer, Joanna Daly, took Nusrat Ghani MP, Under Secretary for the Department of Transport, for a tour of the vessel before she officially opened Seawork 2019 in Southampton.
Setting new standards in the patrol and pilot vessels, the 9-metre Hybrid will be used by port and river authorities, the Police, the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Navy, which all need to meet strict new pollution standards. The new hybrid vessel can operate with zero emissions but also switch easily between variable speeds when necessity arises.
Peter Morton said: “The Chasewell is the first 9m Hybrid Patrol vessel to be built in the UK. This revolutionary vessel sets new standards in hybrid vessel design and build and is fitting that it comes from the Wight Shipyard Company.
“We are a British Shipbuilding company, based on the Isle of Wight, with centuries of traditional and shipbuilding heritage.”
