Wessex League Preview, Saturday, January 5

In the Wessex Premier, Cowes Sports, in 18th place, make the long journey to the Isle of Portland in Dorset, where they face Portland United, who currently lie in second. This is likely to be a tough encounter for the Yachtsmen, as the home side have won ten of their last twelve games at the Grove.

In Wessex 1, Newport, currently in ninth position, have a game against Whitchurch United, who lie in fourteenth, at St George’s Park. Port, who play five home games in succession, will be hoping that a win against the Jam Boys will kick-start a run towards the top of the table.

East Cowes Vics, in thirteenth place in Wessex 1, will be looking to bounce back from their home defeat in the Island derby against Port by beating Hythe and Dibden, currently 3rd, at Beatrice Avenue.

A reminder that Sunday’s derby between East Cowes Vics Ladies and Cowes Ladies has been postponed.
