Waterside swimming pool seeks new trustee

The Waterside Community Trust, operators of Waterside Swimming Pool in Ryde, is seeking a new member for its Board of Trustees.

Applications from individuals with a strong interest in the ‘Third Sector’ and a belief in the ability of community enterprises to deliver essential services for the public good are now being invited.

The Trust was established in 2011 to take ownership of Waterside Swimming Pool following a plan to close and demolish it by Isle of Wight Council, the pool is held on a long and secure lease. In 2013, the free-to-use Children’s Splash Park and seasonal beach lifeguarding service were added to its small portfolio. The Trust became a registered charity in 2016.

Trustees work closely with and are supported by Ryde Town Council. The operational staff are enthusiastic, capable and offer excellent customer service. The pool team delivers lessons to local schools, offers group and private lessons, water workout sessions and pool parties in addition to lane and casual swimming.

Profit margins are narrow due to the nature of this type of enterprise, but the facility has never made a loss. The board recognise, however, that to develop and invest there is a need to raise funds in addition to income from admission fees.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in fundraising, be imaginative and have the time and energy to help take Waterside Swimming Pool to the next level.

Applicants should send CV’s and a short covering letter to the Chairman, Waterside Community Trust, Waterside Pool, The Esplanade, Ryde, PO33 1JA. To find out more visit www.watersidepool.co.uk.
