Sandown & Lakes Warboyes family celebrate win

This week sees Sandown’s Warboyes family celebrating a win, including a hat-trick from 46-year-old Dan. There were Gold Cup wins for Shanklin, Brading, Ventnor, and Bembridge, all securing quarter final places. East Cowes Vics won in Wessex, and Shanklin Ladies progressed in the Women’s Trophy.

Isle of Wight Gold Cup

Shanklin overcame Northwood 4-1 in the Gold Cup, with a first-half strike from Lewis Parsons following a well-worked move, starting from keeper, Ash Goldsmith. After the break, goals came from Daniel Drudge, Rory Day and a yellow-carded Jamie Trowbridge sealed the victory.

Goals in both halves from Aaron Bennett, and one from Isaac Glynn, saw Brading win 3-0 at home to Osborne Coburg.

Ventnor’s Rob Gee scored a hat-trick, with Mark Taylor adding a fourth, in Ventnor’s 4-0 home win over Oakfield.

Bembridge beat Division One leaders, West Wight, 3-1 at Camp Road, with first-half goals from Ben Cutts (2) and Jamie Barratt, with West Wight’s consolation goal from Casey Tyrell late in the match.

IW Divisions One and Two

In Division One, Cowes Sports Res won 5-2 at home to High Park, with goals from Jayden Long, Zak Fever-Norton, Luke Smallwood (2) and Jordan Whittle.

Division Two leaders, Sandown & Lake, won 8-0 away at Seaview, with goals from Liam Pearce, Nick Cantelo, Alex Breingan, Louis Day, Jimmy Golding, Shay Dixon and Ethan Dicker (2).

East Cowes Sports won 3-0 away at Pan, thanks to strikes from Blake Reeves, Aiden Jones and Dave Chiverton.

Two goals apiece from Josh Gwilliam and Robbie Shepherd, and 1 from Jack Butler, helped Newport Res win 5-3 away at Niton, who replied through Ollie McLoughlin (2) and Sam Hatton.

Zak Sullivan’s goal saw Binstead COB secure a 1-0 win at Newchurch.

Combinations One and Two

In Combination One, Sandown & Lake Reserves came back from a goal behind to draw 1-1 at home to Shanklin Res, with George Lee giving the visitors an early lead and Connor Gudgin levelling before the break.

Whitecroft & Barton Res drew 1-1 at home to Brading Res, with Jamie White giving the Romans a first-half lead, and Joe Rayner’s goal securing a point for W&B.

Roland Bryan Jnr and Tony Cowburn scored for East Cowes Sports Res in their 2-2 draw at home to West Wight Res, who replied, through Taylor Simmonds and Reece Galloway, in the last minute of the match.

In Combination Two, goals from the Warboyes family (Ryan, Charlie’s penalty and Dan’s 3) helped Sandown & Lake A win 10-1 at home to Newchurch Res. Ollie Brown, Gary Harvey, Rob Iley, Josh King, and Jack Southwell completed the scoring.

West Wight A were awarded an away win at Oakfield A.

Ryde Saints Res drew 4-4 at home to Ventnor A, with Euan Sargent (2) and Kieron Illman (2) on target for the visitors.

Goals from Stuart Keen, Jai Snow and Tyler Randle saw Bembridge & Vectis A win 3-2 away at Binstead COB Res, who scored through Chad Oatley and Sam Hart.

Wessex

Goals from a returning player-of-the-match Liam Newbold and Jacob Reynolds secured 3 points away to co-promoted New Milton, in a 2-1 victory.

Cowes narrowly lost 1-0 away to Bearsted in the Premier Division, who scored from the spot in the 89th minute.

In Division One, Newport lost 2-0 away to Kintbury Rangers.

Women’s Football

Shanklin are in the next round of the Women’s Trophy, after being awarded an away win at Lymington.

Also in the cup, Wight Eagles lost 5-1, at home, to a very strong Winchester City Flyers side.
