Brighstone Horticultural Society’s new ‘People’s Choice’ award was won by Helen Cox, for her ‘Paper or card work’ entry (Once Upon a Time Book) at its Spring Show, in the Wilberforce Hall and Scout Hut, on Saturday.
The award proved so popular that organisers ran out of voting slips two-thirds of the way through the show, and had to resort to accepting votes on scraps of paper.
The voting was very even, with lots of entries receiving the same number of votes.
To the relief of the organisers, who hadn’t planned a contingency in the event of a tie, Helen’s entry got an extra vote.
The successful show included more than 300 entries from 56 entrants.
The next event on their calendar is their annual plant sale on Saturday, April 26, between 10am-noon, in the Wilberforce Hall, Brighstone. Proceeds will go to the restoration of the lychgate, at the entrance to the New Road Cemetery in the village.
