Violet celebrates her 100th birthday with family and friends

Born on February 29, 1924, Violet Thie celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday (Thursday) at Marigold Royale in Ryde.

Members of Violet’s family travelled over from Canada for the special occasion.

During the war, Violet worked for a company called Frigidaire, but was evacuated to Oxford. There, she joined an agency job doing typing. Eventually, Violet ended up as a tailoress, at Saville Row in London, working for the man who became her husband, William Thie, who she married on July 24, 1943.

George Harden, her brother, was an RAF pilot during the war, but he died in an aircraft accident at the age of 23. He was buried in The Azores. Her other siblings, Edward and Sue, have also sadly passed away.

Violet enjoyed her birthday surrounded by family and friends – and proudly wore a sash with her age on it. She was delighted to receive a card from King Charles to mark the occasion.
