Ventnor continued their unbeaten start to the season, Ruben Bryan bagged 3 for East Cowes Sports Reserves, Rob Iley saw red for Sandown, and there were cup wins for Cowes and West Wight, providing the highlights to a rain-affected weekend.
Island League & Cups
In Division One, early leaders, Ventnor, were victorious at home to Brading, winning 4-1, after Emmerson Tattersall followed up Charlie Urry’s strike. Jack Barsdell made it 2-0 at the break. In the second half, Urry got the third, with Brading getting a consolation goal before Liam Harper topped off a fine win for the early league leaders.
Shanklin recovered from an Aarun Ince’s first-half away goal for Northwood, to win 3-1, with two goals for Josh Field, and one for Finley Lloyd. Jamie Trowbridge was booked for Shanklin.
In the Gold Cup, West Wight won 5-3 on penalties, after the match finished 1-1; Max Foreman scored for West Wight and Mash Wherry for Vectis.
Fixtures at Cowes Res and Binstead were called off due to the weather.
Combination One
Bobby Wye’s and Ryan James’ goals saw Bembridge Res win 2-0 at home to Northwood Res. Brading Res lost 3-1 at home to Binstead COB Res, with outstanding saves from visiting keeper, Keiran Hartnell.
Ruben Bryan’s hat-trick helped early leaders, East Cowes Sports Res, win 7-3 at home to Osborne Coburg Res, with Shane Silk, Tayler Holmes, Roland Bryan and Josh Vaughan netting one each. Consolation goals came from Ben Jones-Evans, Liam Reynolds and Stephen McCarthy.
High Park Res won 2-1 away at Ventnor Res.
Jordan Flynn scored for West Wight Res in their 1-1 draw with Sandown & Lake Res, with George Johnson scoring for Sandown, and Rob Iley getting red-carded.
Wessex Football
In the FA Vase, Cowes won 5-0 away at Bournemouth, with two goals each for John McKie and William Bridi, and one for sub, George Carter-Knight.
In Division One, East Cowes Vics won 1-0 at home to Amesbury Town, with a first-half strike from Elliot Wheeler, with Newport losing 2-0 at Cove.
Fixtures
In Wessex, Cowes travel to Bournemouth, Vics welcome Ringwood, and Newport are away at Alresford Town.
On the Island, Shanklin host Northwood in the Challenge Cup.
In the league, Binstead COB are at home to Bembridge, Brading entertain Whitecroft & Barton, with Cowes Res hosting Osborne Coburg.
Division Two returns with Pan at home to Ryde Saints, and Seaview welcoming High Park.
