A Volkswagen Golf has overturned on Whiterails Road, between Newport and Wootton, between Butterfly World and Wootton Common Crossroads.
The road has been closed, and the No 9 bus has been diverted via Long Lane and Briddlesford Road. Two ambulances from the Isle of Wight ambulance service have been called to the scene following the collision, that happened just after 9 pm on Sunday evening. Two young men have been treated at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have cordoned off the road and are advising people to seek alternative routes The VW Golf is understood to have ploughed into a telegraph pole. Officers at the scene have advised motorists that the road is likely to remain closed for some time until Openreach have attended and carried out safety checks on the wooden pole, that may need to be removed and replaced.
Police contractors from Stag Lane have been called to the scene of the single vehicle collision to recover the vehicle using a Hiab lorry.
