More than 100 motor-cyclists took part in the Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride around the Island on Sunday, raising money for men’s mental health and prostate cancer research.

The ride is a global event which has been running for 12 years. It first started in Australia and, this year, involved more than 100,000 men in 105 countries.

The Island’s ‘ride host’, Mike Upsell, said: “The Island ride has been running for 10 of the 12 years and has grown each year. I used to be a coastguard, so I came across a few suicides and really wanted to help out.

“We had 118 participants, and the ride raised £7,584 for the Movember Foundation. Over the last 10 years, we’ve raised £31,190.

“We started off at Dave Death’s at Carisbrooke, and rode through Newport and across to Sandown Pier before we had a break and a cuppa. After that, we finished at the IW Steam Railway, at Havenstreet Steam Railway, and joined in their Festival of Transport event.”
