Teenagers waste fire officers time

Three teenagers were accused of ‘wasting the Fire Brigade’s time’ after a Cowes crew had to cut them out of baby swings on a recreation ground on Tuesday (March 9).
An appliance was mobilised at 6pm to attend the incident in the play area on Park Road. All three were released using hand tools.

A Hampshire Fire Control spokesman posted, on Twitter, “Fire Control just received a 999 call to three teenagers stuck in baby swings in a park in Cowes. Though obliged to attend for humanitarian reasons, this is a waste of our time and resources & a cost to the community, the teenagers should have been at home…. #StayHomeStaySafe.”
A Cowes Fire Station spokesman added: “Please be mindful of Government guidelines at the current time.”

Under current Covid rules, you can only go outdoors on your own, with your household or support bubble or with one other person.
Last year there was a spate of fire crews across the country being called to cut adolescents out of baby swings due to a challenge on social-media video site, Tiktok.
