Success down under for Harry

Bembridge’s Harry Wilmott-Stanton continues to enjoy tennis success in Australia, after playing for many years, at both Ryde Lawn and Ryde Mead Tennis clubs, and representing the Island twice in the Island Games.

Competing in the MT1000 Gold Coast Tournament 2026, in Queensland, Australia, he lost in the final to the World No 4 and Japanese No. 2 over-30s player, Harry said: “I finished up at the Australian 30+ Championships as runner up in the singles, and Champion in the doubles. Despite the mental tropical humidity, which no British person is designed to compete in, I went down in a 3-set, 2½ hour, grind in the final. It was 30+ degrees and 90 per cent humidity.”
