Dear Editor,
So having grumbled for the last 4 years at the Alliance leadership not dealing with the surplus school places problem, the Conservatives at County Hall largely bottled it last week when given the opportunity to express a view.
15 Conservative councillors – 6 absences, 6 abstentions and 2 against the proposed school closures. Talk about blatant and hypocritical positioning for the next elections, whenever they may be? To his credit Cllr Ian Ward voted in accordance with what his party has been demanding for so long.
As for the Liberal Democrat populists, once again LibDems taking the easy option, supporting the economically indefensible and voting against everything in the hope of a few more votes than they got at the general election.
Surplus school places need dealing with now, but we can forget about both the local Conservatives and Liberal Democrats if we want to see difficult decisions being made at County Hall.
