STAR LETTER: Police should investigate ‘idiots’

Dear Editor,

There was a time when I thought that vehicles making a loud noise along with back firing indicated that something was wrong with the exhaust and ignition. I am now better informed and understand that the owners of these vehicles actually pay technicians to alter the software or replace ‘chips’ in the engine management system to make these noises. Because explosions in the exhaust are likely to damage a catalytic converter, these idiots – and they are most certainly idiots – remove the catalytic converter, only replacing it when the MoT is due.

“Surely this is illegal?, I hear your readers say. Yes, it is, but are the police doing anything about it? Perhaps there is a lack of funds, so my suggestion is that next time there is a ‘meet’ for all these stupid people, the police set up equipment to measure noise levels along the main road into Thorness Bay Holiday Park and prosecute anyone driving a vehicle with a defective exhaust and/or illegally lacking a catalytic converter.

If the police do not cover their costs from fines, I will be happy to make up the shortfall. Just send the invoice to me via the IW Observer.
