By Isle of Wight ObserverThe often congested Staplers Road in Newport will be operating as a one way system in the new year as Southern Water carry out maintenance work.
A Southern Water spokesman said: “We are planning to start work in early January carrying out vital work renewing water mains in Staplers Road, Newport to ensure resilience of the Island’s network.
“We intend to use a one way traffic management system towards Newport and local diversions leaving Newport.
“All timings of the work and traffic management will be done in close cooperation with local authorities to ensure our work is carried out as quickly and safely as possible while causing the minimum disruption.
“We’ll be visiting the local councillors, setting up a drop-in event, distributing information letters and have a dedicated web page to inform our customers and stakeholders in December and carrying out proactive communications across the Island.”
