More than 200 entries from over 40 exhibitors were on display at the Freshwater Horticultural Society’s Spring Flower Show at Freshwater Methodist Church, on Saturday.
The hall was filled with beautiful flowers including daffodils, tulips and hyacinths, while there was also floral art, home-baking, handicraft, photography and children’s exhibits.
Major prize winners included Simon Borrough, for best flowering pot plant, and Peter Yalden, for best hyacinths. Most points in cookery went to Lois Cooper, while most points in handicraft went to Rebecca Walker. Most points in Floral Art was a tie, between Helen Hunt and Victoria Bassil.
IW gardening columnist, Darren Everest, won several awards for his daffodils, including best bloom, best vase and most points in the show.
Tomorrow, Saturday Brighstone Horticultural Society hosts its spring show at the Wilberforce Hall, 1.30pm-4pm, while the Niton and Whitwell society has its show at Niton Village Hall, 2pm-4pm.
