Isle of Wight Observer readers will be left waiting for their favourite newspaper today – courtesy of our currently chaotic cross-Solent ferry services.
Red Funnel would not let our driver board our booked 6am ferry this morning and (at 7.45am) he is currently waiting for the 7.00am service to leave Southampton!
Red Eagle is out of service due to problems with its Voith propellor unit which combines steering and propulsion. There have also been issues with the toilet waste disposal system on Red Osprey. Yesterday the problems led to delays of up to four hours, with those expected to be repeated today. According to Red Funnel insiders the problems with Red Eagle are not expected to be resolved until next Friday (August 9) at the earliest.
