Silver Swans take flight

Five local ladies took to the dance floor in Northwood Village Hall to be examined by the Royal Academy of Dance at Grade 3 level Classical Ballet. The age range was from 55 to 74.

Silver Swans is a new national dance initiative from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) taught on the Island in Newport by local RAD Licenced Silver Swans teacher Suki Turner. The initiative develops fitness, balance and strength in later life.

Carol McGillivray was determined to take the exam without wearing her normal knee brace. She said: “I did ballet as a child and wanted to teach it but I was never good enough. I adored it all my life, and now it’s given me a new challenge. Our Silver Swans class is the highlight of my week!”

Their results should arrive after Christmas, just in time for New Year’s resolutions!
