A young farmer from the Island has been named as one of two representatives for the south on the NFU’s national Student & Young Farmer Ambassadors’ Programme.
Sian Grove, 26, is a part-time shepherdess. Despite being new to the industry, Sian is becoming known in the local farming community for her work as secretary of the Royal Isle of Wight County Show and Gilten Market, and as chairman of the IW Young Farmers’ Club.
The year-long programme will see the ambassadors attend events at Parliament, learn more about the industry from peers, and undertake training days. With a forthcoming general election and an ongoing need to keep food and farming front of mind, the group will play a vital role in telling the story, and value of British farming to the public as well as putting their own stamp on the future of British farming.
