Ryde Town Council elects new Mayor and Deputy Mayor

Cllr Karen Lucioni has been elected Mayor of Ryde, with Cllr Jess Higgins chosen as Deputy Mayor for the coming civic year. The appointments were confirmed at Ryde Town Council’s annual full council meeting on May 11.

Cllr Lucioni was first elected to the town council in 2013, and also serves as an Isle of Wight councillor. Her work has included community safety, environmental matters, and local service delivery.

She said: “It’s a privilege to take on the role of Mayor of Ryde, and I’m excited to work alongside our residents, support our local businesses, and help ensure young people and older residents feel valued and represented within our community. I look forward to proudly representing our town throughout the year ahead.”

Cllr Higgins said it was an honour to be elected Deputy Mayor and said she was looking forward to working alongside Cllr Lucioni.

The council also thanked outgoing Mayor, Cllr Diana Conyers, for her service over the past civic year, who said it had been “a great honour”,8 and that she had been warmly welcomed across the town during the year.
