BBC Radio 6 Music presenters, Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens, popped into Newport’s Triple A Records ahead of a broadcast live from the Isle of Wight on Monday.
The radio legends stopped by to speak to owners, Andy Barding and Jonathan Bacon, about the Isle of Wight music scene, what records sell best, and visited the Wight Music Experience museum on the shop’s first floor.
The shop regularly hosts live concerts, and has seen performances from local acts, including rock trio, Voodoo Raven, and singer-songwriter, Ruby. Coach Party, who recently performed at Triple A Records to promote their second studio album, Caramel, played out the special broadcast, which celebrated Independent Venue Week.
Triple A Records boasts thousands of records, CDs and cassettes, as well as music memorabilia from the 1960s to modern day.
As well as visiting AAA Records, the pair chatted to the team behind Strings to discuss local live music venues, and with Platform One, the Island’s music college. Rob Da Bank also spoke about the Island’s festival history, and his own Music Club, which offers a space for creativity, and opportunity to young Islanders aged 11–18.
