The St Helens Historical Society is hosting a public talk on the history of auctions later this month.

The event, entitled A History of Auctions, will take place on Thursday (January 15) at the St Helens Community Centre and will begin at 7pm, earlier than the society’s usual meeting time.

The talk will be given by Warren Riches, managing director of Hose Rhodes Dickson, who will outline the history of auctions and the firm’s work in Brading. As part of the evening, he will also offer valuations on small items brought along by members of the audience.

Entry is free for society members and £3 for non-members, with cash only accepted. Refreshments and a raffle will be available, and there will be an opportunity to join the society. Annual membership costs £10 and provides free entry to all speaker events for the remainder of the year.
