The soccer season kicked off with Roman, Louis Parsons’ hat-trick, and another 3 for Elliott Apter. Ventnor’s Ash Gulliver and Whitecroft & Barton’s Kyle Drew saw red, and there were Wessex wins for Vics and Newport.

IW Division One

A Parsons’ hat-trick secured Brading a 3-1 home win against Northwood, with a player-of-the-match performance from Kj Warrington. The Roman’s Bryn Turner said: “Great result in the heat, and hats off to Louis Parsons for his hat-trick on his debut.”

Two goals apiece for Carl Phillipson and Harry Green, with one from player-of-the-match, Mark Taylor Jnr, saw Osborne Coburg win 5-1 away to an under-strength Bembridge side, who held the visitors to 1-1 at the break.

Watcombe Bottom saw a bruising encounter, with Ash Gulliver sent off for the home side, and Kyle Drew dismissed for champions, W&B, in their narrow 2-1 away win at Ventnor. Goal-less at the break, goals from Sam Yelland and Harry Taylor secured the points, with Freddie Knowles netting for Ventnor, who saw a stand-out performance from Neo Lamb.

Johnny Holmes’ West Wight won 5-0 at home to Binstead COB, with goals from Ash Brett, Max Foreman and Josh Daley, with two own-goals.

A resurgent Shanklin narrowly won 2-1 at home to Cowes Reserves. Player-manager, Peter Wilson, netted from new signing Josh Field’s cross. Cory Sanderson’s shot hit the top of the net to add Shanklin’s second.

Vectis were awarded a home win over Wootton.

Combination One

In Combination One, High Park Reserves won 5-1 away at Bembridge Reserves.

East Cowes Sports Reserves won 4-1 at home to Ventnor Reserves, with goals from Reece Sibley, Garry Richardson, Andrew Ebbs and an own goal.

Binstead COB Reserves were awarded a home win over Northwood Reserves.

Sandown Reserves won the south coast derby 2-0 away at Shanklin, with Rob Iley scoring in the first half, and Kai Westmore adding a second in injury time at the end of the match.

An Elliott Apter hat-trick, and Alex Boirand strike, secured Brading Reserves a solid 4-2 away win at Osborne Coburg Reserves, with consolation goals from Josh White and player-of-the-match Bradley Gamble.

Wessex Leagues

In Premier Division One, Cowes drew 1-1 at home to Hamworthy Recreation, with William Bridi scoring for the Yachtsmen. On Tuesday night Cowes lost 7-1 away at AFC Portchester, with Jake Wright scoring from a penalty late in the match.

In Division One, after a goal-less first half, Newport won 2-1 away at Ash, with goals from yellow-carded Harri Catania and Michael Thompsett.

Brothers Joshua and Caleb Neale scored for East Cowes Vics in their 2-1 home win against Hamworthy United. Midweek Vics won 2-0 away at Clanfield, with first-half goals from Caleb Neale and Jordan Chapman.

Fixtures

Saturday sees Cowes welcoming Hythe & Dibden, Newport home to New Milton, and Vics away to Totton & Eling.

In IW Division One, W&B visit Bembridge, Brading host Cowes Reserves, Shanklin entertain Wootton, Vectis play Northwood and Ventnor are home to Binstead COB.
