Police make man walk stolen traffic lights back to Shanklin sink hole site

A man was forced to walk temporary traffic lights back to their original location by police after he moved them.

Officers then arrested the man who was drunk according to witnesses at the scene of Hope Road, Shanklin at 2am on November 21.

HSS Isle of Wight took to Facebook to thank police, posting: “Excellent approach to policing by Hampshire Constabulary. A guy steals one of our traffic lights in the middle of the night and takes it some distance up hill and through town. The policeman then makes the guy walk the traffic light all the way back to the site, and then arrests him.”

Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “We received a report at 11.42pm on November 21 of three drunk men having removed a set of traffic lights from Hope Road, Shanklin.

“The lights were subsequently returned.”
