Police find burnt cannabis plants during fire investigation

A man whose flat caught fire back in 2016 has been ordered to pay £110 in costs after police found evidence of cannabis cultivation.

A police investigation revealed burnt cannabis plants, lights, and growing equipment were found in Steven St John’s flat in Nippert Court, Newport back in 2016.

St John, 40, now living in Southsea told police the equipment was to do with photography but later admitted he had grown the drug.

There’s no suggestion St John had been involved with the fire that destroyed a block of flats and closed West Street for over a month.

St John was fined £40 by the court and told to pay a £30 surcharge and £40 costs
