Police called to staff fighting in McDonald’s

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have been to McDonald;s in Newport for a second time this evening (January 14).

The second call came following an order for those loitering outside the venue to disperse by officers.

On this occasion, officers were called after a manager and a staff member were seen grappling with each other in the busy fast food restaurant kitchen. In response, police rushed to the hamburger restaurant, which has been the focal point of disorder for many months. Shocked diners, who asked not to be named, witnessed one staff member attempt to strangle the other.

The two staff members, neither of whom were arrested, have been suspended and sent home. They are both now at risk of losing their employment. Officers attending are thought to have offered words of advice to the pair. Police are understood to have recorded the matter as a workplace incident.
