Picnic in the Park returns to Northwood House

One of the Island’s favourite free events, the annual “Picnic in the Park,” returns next weekend, inviting friends and families for an enjoyable afternoon at Northwood House in Cowes.

Taking place on Sunday, June 9, from 12noon to 6pm, the event promises entertainment and activities for all ages.

Now celebrating its tenth year, the picnic has become a much-loved tradition, attracting several thousand locals each year.

Sponsored by Cowes Town Council, and with donations from Red Funnel and the Royal Yacht Squadron, the event also welcomes holidaymakers from the mainland.

The Northwood House Charitable Trust is delighted to host the event, which features an arena packed with free children’s entertainment throughout the afternoon. Activities include running races and dance workshops. A highlight of the event, the giant fun dog show with nine classes, kicks off at 2pm, welcoming numerous four-legged participants.

The festivities officially begin at midday, with a welcome address by the Cowes’ Town Mayor and the Isle of Wight High Sheriff, Graham Biss, at the Lawn Stage. Following the opening remarks, a programme of live music will entertain guests throughout the afternoon. The Wight Diamonds Marching Band will lead the musical line-up, followed by performances from JC’s Fun Band, MR Mojo Duo, and Jimmy’s Big Fish.

For those not bringing their own picnic, a variety of food and refreshments will be available all afternoon. Enjoy cream teas, a barbecue on the lawn, and more hot food from the Garden Restaurant in Cowes. The Lawn Bar will also be open, and local charity stalls will participate, raising funds and awareness for their causes.

Don’t miss out on one of Cowes’ most enjoyable events of the year. More information can be found at northwoodhouse.org/events.
