We’ve had a sneak peek at the IW County Show!

Mark your calendars for a weekend brimming with excitement, tradition, and community spirit at the Royal Isle of Wight County Show 2024, taking place on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.

Since the very first show in 1833, the event has been a cornerstone of the Island’s agricultural life, even earning Queen Victoria’s Royal seal of approval. Over the years, it has blossomed into a wide-ranging celebration of Island life.

Paying homage to its roots, animals remain at the heart of the show. You can lead a sheep, herd a pig, or walk an alpaca, offering a hands-on experience that connects you to the essence of farming. The main ring, sponsored again by the IW Observer, promises a packed line-up of entertainment and educational insights. Highlights include “Farming Through the Ages,” trial bike displays, the vintage tractor parade, and the ever-popular Shetland Pony Grand National.

Watch the Big Bale Challenge, where teams navigate a hefty 250kg (39 stone) bale through an obstacle course, showcasing strength and teamwork – and lots of falling over! The Grand Parade is a spectacle not to be missed, celebrating prize-winners from all parts of the show.

But that’s just the beginning. Laugh at the antics of dancing sheep, feel the thrill of the rodeo ride, and savour the best of local cuisine in the Food Pavilion. Marvel at the talent of local artists and makers, and don’t miss your chance to build a sandcastle on an inland beach—followed by a refreshing pint at the Village Green Bar. Try your hand at traditional crafts like hurdle making, charcoal burning, and spoon whittling, and enjoy the equine events, from show jumping to carriage driving.

The Royal Isle of Wight County Show is a vibrant celebration of our community, heritage, and the rural lifestyle.
