Short film evenings at Freshwater’s Piano Cafe have raised £1,000 for Wessex Cancer Trust IW.

The money will go towards the charity’s £100,000 Building for the Future appeal to create a new cancer support centre for the Island.

The events, which take place four times a year, were organised by Paul Windridge and cafe owner Sam Scadgell, with the next one planned for February 28th.

Paul said: “We’d like to thank everyone that has supported these evenings and we hope there will be many more to come, so we can continue to support charities in this way.”

Wessex Cancer Trust’s community engagement manager, Lorraine White, said: “We are so grateful for the support of The Piano Cafe. Receiving £1,000 at this stage of the appeal has given us a real boost and we are now just £9,000 away from our £100,000 target. ”

The appeal closes at the end of March and work on the new centre is expected to start at the beginning of May.
