Local charity, Friends of the Animals, is urgently appealing for foster carers, to help meet rising demand for emergency dog placements. With more dogs needing support than ever before, the charity is seeking kind-hearted individuals and families who can offer short-term homes until a permanent match is found.
Jane and Arthur Weller, long-time fosterers with the charity, have welcomed dogs of all ages and sizes into their home – sometimes for just a few days, sometimes for weeks. “We tell the dogs they’ve come to us for a bit of R&R,” said Jane. “It’s an absolute joy to have them. If you have the time and love, but feel you can’t commit to a dog of your own, fostering is a wonderful alternative.”
Foster carers receive full support from Friends of the Animals, including guidance and reassurance throughout the process. The charity covers essential costs and matches dogs to suitable homes based on experience and availability.
“Every day we make good things happen,” said a representative, “but we can only do it with your help.
“Each foster is unique, and every time you open your heart and home, you’re giving an animal the care and stability they need on their journey to a forever family. Whether you foster once or many times, your kindness makes a lasting difference.”
If you think you could offer a temporary home to a dog in need, please call the Friends of the Animals office on 522511, which is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am. You could be the person – or family – that changes a life.
