Newport Parish Council name will change

Carisbrooke will be added to the name of Newport Parish Council.

It follows a two-week public consultation – and was approved on Wednesday night (September 19) at a full council meeting of the Isle of Wight Council.

The full council agreed the title change – which followed an initial request from Newport Parish Council to change its name to Newport and Carisbrooke Parish Council.

The change will not affect any other aspect of the running of Newport Parish Council – and all existing wards and elected members will remain as they are.

Residents’ views were invited over a two-week period from July 23 to August 6.

There were seven responses, six for the name change and one against.

Newport Parish Council was formed in 2008 and currently has 14 elected members, taking in the Island’s county town and neighbouring Carisbrooke.
