Newport Jazz Club is pleased to announce their return this Sunday at the Apollo Theatre in Newport.

They will be starting with their 10th birthday concert, deferred from 2020, with a line-up featuring Island bassist, Cass Caswell, with his Celebrity Quintet which he describes as a swinging mainstream combo.

With Cass will be pianist, David Newton, who has been voted the UK’s best jazz pianist 16 times. On tenor sax is Jo Fooks who previously toured with the late Humphrey Lyttelton. Eddie John, who has worked with artists such as Acker Bilk and Bonnie Langford, will provide the engine room, whilst Cass’s own discovery, Sinead McCabe, will be on vocals.

Bill Wills, chairman, said: “It has been a long two years of inactivity due to the pandemic and we are pleased to be back at the Apollo Theatre for the first of what I hope will be a return to our regular Sunday concerts.”

The concert will take place Sunday (May 22) at the Apollo Theatre, Newport, starting at 3pm. Tickets cost £12 or £5 for students, and can be purchased on the door or ordered in advance by phoning 730601 or 523879.
