A new calm and supportive space for women has opened in Ryde, offering a safe and welcoming environment for those in need of time, support, or simply a quiet place to be.
The project, called Women Only, is the latest initiative from the team behind Rodger & Steve’s Place, which has provided a non-judgemental support space for men on the Island since 2021.
Founder, Karl Hart, said the idea grew out of a desire to support more Islanders. “After three years supporting men, we wanted to go further. This new space offers a relaxed environment where women can feel heard, supported, and understood, without pressure or paperwork.”
Located at 133 High Street, Ryde, the space will open three times a week and is free to access, with no referral or appointment necessary. Women aged 18 and over are welcome to drop in, with children also welcome.
Visitors can expect hot drinks, creative activities, and friendly conversation, or simply the chance to sit quietly in peace. The space is staffed by experienced team members and volunteers, with the future of the project shaped by feedback from those who attend.
The Women Only pilot begins on Monday (July 14). Opening hours are:
Monday: 9am–12pm
Wednesday: 12pm–4pm
Friday: 4pm–8pm
Karl added: “We believe support should never come with strings, just warmth, respect, and time.”
